Shin Hanga

Shin hanga, che significa letteralmente nuove stampe, fu un movimento artistico giapponese dell’inizio del XX secolo, durante il periodo Taishō (1912 – 1926) e il periodo Showa (1926 – 1989). Il movimento nacque intorno al 1915 e  fu attivo fino al 1942, sebbene fu ripreso brevemente tra il 1946 e gli anni cinquanta.

Verso la fine del periodo Meiji (1968 – 1912) dopo Kobayashi Kiyochika l’ukiyo-e cominciò gradualmente a declinare. Lo shin hanga rivitalizzò la stampa xilografica tradizionale mantenendo la stessa struttura lavorativa dell’ukiyo-e del periodo Edo e del periodo Meiji (XVII – XIX secolo): l’artista disegnava il soggetto che poi veniva intagliato dall’incisore e lo passava successivamente allo stampatore che lavorava per un editore. Il più famoso editore del movimento shin hanga fu Watanabe Shozaburo.

L’influenza occidentale nelle stampe giapponesi.

Ispirati dagli impressionisti europei, gli artisti dello shin hanga combinarono elementi occidentali, come i giochi di luce o l’espressione degli stati d’animo, con i temi tradizionali delle stampe giapponesi come i paesaggi (fukei-ga), le vedute famose (meishō), le belle donne ( bijin-ga), gli attori Kabuki (yakusha-e) e fiori e uccelli ( kachō-e). La luce naturale, l’ombreggiatura e la prospettiva sono utilizzate per rappresentare la coesistenza serena dell’uomo con la natura. Le stagioni (come la fioritura dei ciliegi dell’inizio della primavera o il solstizio d’estate), la scansione del giorno (come la luna piena o la nebbia mattutina), le condizioni meteorologiche  (come un tempio innevato o dopo un temporale) legano le stampe a specifici momenti del giorno e dell’anno.

Il movimento shin hanga incluse diversi artisti e ognuno di loro era conosciuto per un particolare tema: Hashiguchi Goyo per i ritratti di donne, Ito Shinsui per i paesaggi e i ritratti di donne, Yamamura Koka e Ōhta Masamitsu per i ritratti di attori Kabuki. Ohara Koson per le stampe di uccelli, Kawarazaki Shôdô per le stampe di fiori, Kawase Hasui e Hiroshi Yoshidasono probabilmente i più popolari paesaggisti del movimento shin hanga. Kawase Hasui e Yoshida Hiroshi sono probabilmente i più popolari paesaggisti del movimento shin hanga.
